The busy, yet quiet/quaint town of ZIHUATANEJO otherwise known as "Zihua" is just a short drive away & on the other side of a beautiful mountain. Zihuatanejo is mentioned as having no memory in the famous movie Shawshank Redemption. It has a totally different feel from the tourist/resort vibe of its twin-town Ixtapa & although it is considerably more commercially built up off the main street, it is still a very small town with a main street running straight through from Ixtapa to the Zihuatanejo airport (visa versa) totaling an approximate 25 minute drive each way. Zihuatanejo is home to a few larger stores such as Bodega & Sorianna both similar to a Target or Walmart type of shopping experience and selection. However, if you choose to shop local as we recommend... the Centro Market in the heart of Zihua is a bustling daily market full of everything you can think of & more. In the Centro Market, you will find a large selection of locally grown (& imported too) NON-GMO fresh foods, baked goods, meats, fresh seafood, clothing, housewares, & just about anything you can imagine! We love to go for the green juices & a pit stop for lunch treating ourselves to one of our favorite local Mexican dishes! Sopes, approadillo, chili Relleno, & chicken cordon blue (Mexican style) & mole are some of our favs! You must try them at one of the many restaurant vendors there at the Zihua Market!

Zihua also has a very popular Organic Market held in the parking lot entrance to Playa Principal (Principal Beach)/La Concha Basketball Court/Community Stage & Finally Onward to the Zihua Pier... !
